Becky Gelinas has been teaching at Hadley Elementary School for over 11 years. She has taught both third and fourth grades. When asked why she became a teacher, her response was not a surprise. She has always wanted to help people and to make a difference. Her favorite part of her job...the kids, of course.
You will find Ms. Gelinas and her students using some sort of technology just about anytime you visit her classroom. They regularly use their document camera, the interactive whiteboard, Pearson Successnet online, an online typing program, online Scholastic News, Brain Pop and more. The COWS are in and out on a daily basis.
Initially, it is a bit difficult for the 4th graders to learn how to log into their new Google accounts to use the chromebooks. Sharing and saving files in the cloud is a new experience for many students.
Some of the projects using technology that Ms Gelinas has integrated into her curriculum have been using SImpleBooklet to make ABC books, using Weebly to create websites on the regions of the United States and using Pearson online testing. This year students have been using technology during reading group time to write about the stories they are reading and to construct storyboards using StoryboardThat. Getting feedback via Google docs is new for 4th graders this year,
Keep an eye out for new ideas coming to fruition this year as Ms. Gelinas is working on creating a class website that the students will be adding content to.
We interviewed a few volunteers from 4G to learn more about how they are using technology in the classroom.

This year 4G started off on the fast track, working on a video for international peace day in the very first week of school. The first video is the Hadley 4G version; the second is the version with over 30 schools from all around the world, so you will only see a few seconds of the famous 4G students.
